Fuel Her Ability to Mother
Providing A Loving Home
Endless Love, Boundless Care
Our House Mothers’ Mission
At Breath of Heaven, our devoted house mothers selflessly serve as the backbone of our organization - providing round-the-clock nurturing care and guidance to help children thrive. These compassionate women fully commit themselves to creating a warm, loving family environment within each of our cozy 12-person homes, filling the vital maternal role that so many of our youths tragically lack.
Operating with boundless empathy and energy, our house mothers cook nourishing meals, provide homework help, teach essential life skills like laundry and budgeting, facilitate sibling-like bonds between residents, impart spiritual lessons, and most importantly shower each child with the unconditional love they deserve. Even when exhaustion looms, the house mothers persevere - tucking little ones into bed each night with tender affection.
We aim to emulate true family relationships rather than impersonal dormitory-style facilities, thanks to our founder Pastor Ted's wise vision. Our house mothers selflessly relocate to our campus full-time for 4-6 weeks at a time, only briefly returning home to visit their own families so as not to disrupt this familial setting. An additional assistant house mother volunteers each weekday for added support.
It is only through the dedication of donors like you that we can continue compensating these hardworking women fairly and providing respite care so that they can sustain this demanding labor of love.
Carolyn’s Heart
Carolyn's Heart, is a memorial fund established in Carolyn Orloff-Martinez name and honor to support the house mothers and aunties who sacrifice much to take care of our orphans at Breath of Heaven Children's Ministries in Zambia Africa of which she cared so deeply. Contributions will be used toward supporting the amazing effort and call of caregiving provided by these wonderful women of glory.
“The mothers do more than cook, clean, and take care of a house. They love the children unconditionally, just like Jesus”
— Carolyn Orloff
Homemakers, Caregivers, Mentors
Love of a Mother
As surrogate mothers, our devoted house mothers wholly commit to providing the tender love, nurturance, and support every child deserves - selflessly caring for the orphaned youth under their wings as they would their own. Going above and beyond duty, these compassionate women strive to be the listening ear, the guiding hand, and the unconditional shoulder to lean on that their vulnerable wards so sorely need, filling the profound role of mother where fate has failed.
Spiritual Nurture
Seeking to nourish the spiritual heart just as much as the physical, our devoted house mothers uplift and nurture the children's faith - guiding young souls in weekly Bible lessons, imparting moral wisdom, and fostering an environment where the love of God and community can prosper. Welcoming all into their homes irrespective of creed, these compassionate women tend a spark that gives hope and purpose where vulnerability once dwelled, their spiritual care allowing orphaned youth to connect with something far greater than worldly uncertainty.
Life Skills
Seeking to equip each child with the life tools for thriving adulthood, our patient house mothers instruct the orphanage’s older children in vital daily competencies like household budgeting, nutritious cooking, diligent hygiene, and orderly home care – guiding children to wash laundry, balance checkbooks, collaborate in meal preparation, and uphold communal living spaces. Promoting sibling-like relationships under each roof, these devoted mentors also nurture teamwork, conflict resolution, and peer bonding – helping teen residents forge lifelong connections through coaching empathy, counseling disputes, and role modeling forgiveness.
